Sarouk Carpets
Sarouk is a village in the south of the Borchalu region and was invaded by Turkoman in 1000 A.D. and again in 1400 A.D. The impact left over by these invasions was perceptible and pronounced in almost every sphere of life as invaders mostly suppressed the cultural activities of other regions of Sarouk to maintain dominance and
hegemony. But from the point of view of carpet design, there wasn't the faintest resemblance. Furthermore, Sarouk carpets aren't only confined to the Sarookh Village but come from a far larger area centered on the old provincial capital, Arak. The rugs from Sarouk were dominant over other rugs of the region due to their design, color scheme, and weave. That is why the name quickly assumed significance throughout the globe.
One of the oldest carpets from Sarouk was constructed specially for the Shah of Iran in the 16th century. A carpet with fine weave, thick pile made of silk. The carpet had rosy red ground shade derived from the decoction of madder-root. The blue medallion with absolutely no spikes, no sharp spokes derived from the medallion. The carpet had a distinctive border and corner with its design. It took the weaver almost six years to complete it to the Shah's satisfaction. The rug was sold to a British businessman in a rather damaged condition in the 19th century, then was later purchased by a businessman from Austria. Who later sold it to the government of Vienna and was kept in the Vienna Museum.
Our selection of exquisite silk rugs reflects the glory and grandeur of the royal Mughal courts. Hand-knotted in the fine quality pure silk, these silk rugs glow with a divine lustrous sheen resulting from the interplay or infinite reflections. These cause dramatic changes in the colors, tones, and hues from one edge of the carpet to the other, creating a mesmerizing and magical effect. Every single rug design has a rich history and tradition dating back to the prior centuries, making every rug an heirloom and fascinating conversation piece.
